π Community Invitation: Marlborough House Plaque Unveiling Ceremony π
Dear Community Members,
We are honored to invite you to a significant event commemorating the children who resided in Marlborough House Industrial School. The formal unveiling of a memorial plaque on Saturday, 3 August at 11:00am. The ceremony will take place at the Margaret Aylward Centre. The event is open to the community.
Marlborough House, Glasnevin, built in 1906 on the site of the Villa and Roseview, has a profound history. Initially an educational training college for girls, it became an Irish-speaking college before transitioning into a detention home for juveniles in the 1950s. Though the house was demolished in the 1970s to make way for the Meteorological Office, its legacy, particularly as an industrial school, endures.
This plaque unveiling is a tribute to the children who spent their formative years in Marlborough House. It is an opportunity for our community to remember and honor their experiences and the history of the institution.
We hope you can join us to commemorate this important piece of our community’s history. For more information about Marlborough House, please visit: Link to More Information
